General information

Which photos are available?

Unless it is restricted by the locations they were taken at, all images are available to purchase as an art reference. Whenever a location does have restrictions on that, I generally try to avoid those locations. Although, sometimes I will still go, because of the beautiful animals to photograph.

It's also possible for one artist to purchase exclusive rights to an image. When that happens, it clearly becomes unavailable to all that inquire after that.

In any case, the easiest thing to do is simply ask for a specific image. You always get response as soon as possible.

Why do I need a license?

The art reference licenses are there to ensure the image doesn't get passed around between artists. Every license is personalised, so it only gives one artist the right to use it.

Because of the various license tiers, the images can also be purchased by artists from every level. The standard license comes for free with any purchase, making it perfect for anyone that's still a newer artist. Whereas the unlimited "Diamond" tier is perfect for the top level artists who make a serious living from their art. And for anything in between, there's a total of 6 tiers.

What does a license cover?

An art reference license gives the artist the right to use a specific image or set of images to create art and potentially sell it. It's also allowed to make digital prints of the original artwork or any other merchandise you can think of that features the art.

The various license tiers all have different limitations in regards to how much the artist can sell all of those things combined for. The more you sell for, the higher your required tier will be, which in turn will also cost more.

As an artist, you will always hold the rights to your own artwork (unless you sell it, of course), the same way the reference image will always belong to me.

Can I use the same art reference multiple times?

The short answer: possibly, yes.

Whether or not you are able to use the same reference image twice (or even more) depends on a couple of things: what license you have and how much you sell for.

For example: if you sell your art piece (and prints and/or other merchandise) for a total of €750 and your license is limited at €1000, you would probably have to have to get a license upgrade to the next tier, so that it covers the total of €1500 (assuming the sales will be equal for both).

On the other hand, if you have a license that allows you to sell for up to €2500 and you sell for maybe €500 for example, there's nothing stopping you from creating the same piece 5 times either.

The question is: would you want to devalue your art by not having them be one of a kind? But if you maybe like to do a drawing and a painting or maybe a charcoal sketch, that would of course be different takes on the same image.

So as long as you get the right license to cover it all, you can do whatever you like.

Are reference images watermarked?

Yes, all art reference images have a semi transparent watermark on them. Transparent enough to still show you all the needed details underneath, but also visible enough to render the image useless to use for anything other than referencing.

Every once in a while an artist might have an issue with the placement or opacity of the watermark. If that happens to you, you can always contact me via Instagram DM, WhatsApp or email and we can discuss the issue and see if a change can be made.
